Sidney Bunyan Evans, Sr., beloved father and grandfather, was reunited with a host of family and friends, Tuesday, July 22, 2008 as he passed peacefully from this earthly life into his heavenly dwelling. His last hours were spent surrounded by loved ones sharing stories, memories, laughter, and even a few tears. The sorrow over his death is eased by the reality that, at 104, he had lived a full, productive life, and was ready to move on to bigger and better things!
Sid was born May 26, 1904 to Delilah Cloud and Martin Bunyan Evans in Saline, Louisiana. He married Lillian Krousel in l932 and they moved to Converse in l935 and opened a general store. They were partners in several small businesses, including Rogers and Evans Sawmill, Sabine Ice Company, Midway Dairy, Economy Butane Gas, oil, and tree farming. Most, but not all, were successful. Lillian passed away September 27, 1974 at age 66.
Sid was well respected for his hard work, generosity and sound business advice, traits he passed along to his children. He was very proud of his two 'boys', Sonny and Ricky. It was their love and devotion toward their father that enabled them to be his caregivers in his later years of life.
Mr. Evans spent the last seven years in Natchitoches, La. where he was a member of First United Methodist Church and enjoyed the food and fellowship shared with the Young At Heart Group. He also enjoyed riding around in the country, eating fried fish at 'Almost Home', opening the mail and, especially, talking timber business.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Krousel Evans; three brothers, Noah Otto Evans, J. Owen Evans, and Hansford Evans; two sisters, Ruth Draper and Effie Evans; parents, Martin Evans and Delilah Cloud Evans.
He is survived by two sons, Sidney B. Evans, Jr. and wife Evelyn of Natchitoches, La. and Richard H. Evans and wife Rachel of Converse, La.; nine grandchildren; and nineteen great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Sidney B. Evans, III, Allen Evans, Richard H. Evans, Jr., and John Evans, co-workers, Wayne Childress, Ernest Ebarb, and Brian Hagan.
Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters, Elizabeth Foshee, Sherrie Graf, Angela Kelly, Toni Evans, and Teri Evans; nephews, B. G. Lewis, Max Evans, Bruce Evans and Tyrone Evans.
Special thanks is given to friend, Art Taylor, Hospice of Natchitoches, Thompson and Synergy Home Health, and Dr. Mary Long.
