Funeral service for Mary Carolyn Robson will be held 10 AM Monday, August 11, 2008 in Blanchard St. Denis Chapel with Rev. John Harry Robson and Rev. Thomas Rush officiating. Burial will be in Memory Lawn Cemetery at Natchitoches, La. Visitation will be Sunday, August 10, 2008 from 5 PM until 7 PM and on Monday, August 11, 2008 from 8 AM until service time in the funeral home Mrs. Thorn, 72, of Natchitoches, La. died Thursday, August 7, 2008 in St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital in Houston, Tx. She was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, moved to Natchitoches during her childhood and remained there as a lifelong resident. She attended Natchitoches High School, Class of 1954; Northwestern State College for her BA, MA; North Texas State University for her Ed.D. Professionally, Carolyn enjoyed being a college professor in art education and painting. She was an accomplished and locally-known water color and pastel portrait artist. Coupled with her deceased husband, James C. Thorn, she painted the portraits of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame for most of its history. She taught for twenty-seven years atNorthwestern State University and was a teacher in Caddo Parish before that. She served her community as a volunteer and was considered a faithful member and leader in the First Baptist Church of Natchitoches. She was preceded in death by her parents, John B. Robson and Marguerite K. Robson of Natchitoches, La; and her sister Barbara R. Davis ofStarkville, Mississippi. Survivors include her son, James C. (Jim) Roberts of Natchitoches; her daughter, Cheryl R. Taylor of Beaumont, Texas; her brother, John H. Robson of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and four grandchildren. Memorials may be made to The American Heart Association or First Baptist Church Building Fund.
