Jewel Aline Pennington Sibley, passed away Monday, June 2, 2014, in Lafayette, LA at the age of 93. She was born October 22, 1920 in Atlanta, LA to Marshall Meredith and Maude Elizabeth Durham Pennington.
Funeral services for Mrs. Sibley will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, June 6, at First Baptist Church, Natchitoches, Louisiana, with Rev. Thomas Rush officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Lawn Cemetery in Natchitoches. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, June 5, at Blanchard - St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches and also from 1:00 pm until service time at the church.
Mrs. Sibley was a retired Webster Parish schoolteacher who participated in many volunteer organizations. These included Eastern Star, American Legion, WMU and Merry Makers. She worked at the Loving Care Mission in Natchitoches well into her 80’s. She enjoyed reading and crocheting, with each new family member receiving their own special afghan. She enjoyed traveling in the states and abroad with her sister-in-laws and later with her daughters. She also had a passion for fishing and taught all her grandchildren to spit on their worm.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Walter Cecil Sibley; her brother Arlo Pennington; and her sister Opal Leach. Those left to cherish her memory include her sister Hazel Nowlin and husband Johnnie of Lafayette ; her children Barbara Fischer and husband Scott of Lafayette; Judy Lary and husband Andy of Midland, TX; Cecil Sibley and wife Rachel of Ruston; Sandra Robinette and husband John of Lake Charles; Wanda Bagwell and husband Bill of Scottsdale, AZ; and Wayne Sibley and wife Terri of Pineville.
Meemaw loved her grandchildren and great-grands and they include Shannon Dark and husband David and children Dalton, Carley and Grant of Natchitoches; John Tracy Robinette and wife Ashley of Texas City, TX and children John, Ian and Hunter; Erin Plunkett and husband Tony and children Ethan and Emory of West Monroe; Robyn Adams and husband Greg and children Brandon and Ashley of Cibolo, TX; Joshua LaPlace and wife Susan and children Austin and Ethan of Lafayette; Michelle Landry and husband Darren and children Kayleigh, Cadence, Chase, Kanon and Kenadee of Grand Lake; Wendy O’Connor and husband Courtney and children Kevin and Melanie of Fayetteville, NC; Ambre Broussard and husband Kenny and children Jada and Ellie of Erath; Misty Ketcherside and husband Nick and children Landon, Trenton, Austyn and Ryker of Midland, TX; Brooke Stephens and husband Mark and children Chloe and Shiloh of Chandler, AZ; Holly Lary of Midland, TX; Meredith Bagwell of Scottsdale, AZ; Heather Poe and husband Joshua of Pineville ; Kyle Bagwell of Louisville, KY; James Sibley and wife Lacey of Anchorage, AK; Eric Fischer and wife Tracy and daughter Lilly of Lafayette; and Brian Fischer of Lafayette.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers include John Tracy Robinette, Joshua LaPlace, Kyle Bagwell, James Sibley, David Dark and MSG Gregory Adams.
