A vigil service for Mrs. Selma Diaz Shivers will be at 11 am Monday, June 30, 2014 at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home with Father Ryan Humphries officiating. Interment will follow at Fern Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9 am until service time on Monday the 30th in the funeral home chapel.
Mrs. Shivers, 97 years of age, passed away Saturday, June 28, 2014 in Natchitoches. She was born October 14, 1916 to Emile and Laura Diaz in Napoleonville, LA. She was a long time parishioner of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. A true example of a Christian woman, she cared for others needs before providing for her own needs, a true example of Agape love to all she met. She was a loving and kind mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother as well as a motherly figure to so many more outside of her family. She will be missed but we are assured of being reunited with her one day in heaven.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Earl Shivers; parents, Emile and Laura Diaz; and a sister, Mae Pfister.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Tommy Shivers of Jasper, TX, Sue McCausland and her husband Joe of Houston, TX, Diane McQuillin and her husband Terry of Natchitoches, Kathie Duggan and her husband Robert of Pineville, Richard Shivers of Bossier City, Penny Heard and her husband Kenneth of Natchitoches, Lynn Shivers of Houston, TX, Charles Shivers and his wife Mary Margaret of Natchitoches, Joseph Shivers and his wife Kaye of Natchitoches and Lawney Shivers and his wife Cheryl of Provencal; siblings, Margie Sawyer of Ft. Walton Beach, FL and Patsy Arbogast of Melbourne, FL. She was blessed with 22 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren.
