Memorial service for Dr. R. Lyle Christensen, Jr., Ph.D will be held 11 AM Tuesday, September 9, 2008 in First United Methodist Church, Natchitoches, La. with Rev. Donald Avery officiating.
Dr. Christensen, 57of Austin , Texas , passed away Friday, August 22, 2008 . He was born in Mason City , Iowa , March 5, 1951 and will be remembered for his many accomplishments from Eagle Scout to completing his post doctoral fellowship in Clinical & Cellular Biochemistry.
Lyle was a member of the American Chemical Society, the American Association of Clinical Chemistry and had published many periodicals. He was a graduate of Washington University Medical School in St. Louis , Mo , as well as Southern Illinois University, the University of New Orleans and Northwestern State University in Louisiana . Dr. Lyle had been a bio-chemistry professor at Indiana University and Michigan State University . Lyle left academia to become a laboratory director in Herndon, Virginia and later moved to Cleveland, Ohio. He then relocated and directed a medical testing laboratory in Austin, Tx. He was recognized by the Academy of Clinical Laboratory Physicians and Scientists with the Young Investigator Award.
He is survived by his wife of twelve years, Karen Lutzow Christensen of Austin , TX , parents Raymond L. and Fern Breakenridge Christensen of Natchitoches , LA. , sister, Tena Allain and her husband, Michael Allain of Coppell , TX and his nephews, Joseph, Jimmy and Jeffery Allain. Lyle leaves behind many friends who were very supportive.
