Janice Meade Barlow Nix passed away peacefully at her home, with her sons by her side, on September 10th, 2014. She was born in Natchitoches on May 23rd, 1924. She attended St. Mary’s and Natchitoches High School, before continuing her education at Northwestern State College.
She was employed at Peoples Bank and Trust for nearly thirty years. She met her beloved husband, Bob, early on in her days as a teller. Their loving union lasted fifty-six years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Robert Nix, II, and her parents, Inez and Marco Barlow. She is survived by two sons, Samuel Robert Nix, III, and Stephen Vance Nix.
Janice enjoyed dancing, and was especially fond of the Jitterbug. She was an avid reader and a great conversationalist. She was first and foremost, a lady. Her heart was very kind and giving, and her family always came first. Her home was her sanctuary. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends.
Mrs. Nix was a member of the First Baptist Church in Natchitoches, LA. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi, and the Eastern Star Lodge.
Visitation will be at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home on Friday, September 12th, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home on Saturday, the 13th of September at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Fern Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Chris Wells, Craig Cohen, Victor Longlois, Jimmy DeBlieux, Donald Moss and Mike Guilliams. Jack McCain, Jr., is an honorary pallbearer.
The family would like to commend the wonderful staff and doctors at Specialty Rehabilitation Hospital in Coushatta, LA. They contributed greatly to Mrs. Nix’s overall health, quality of life and mobility in her final year of life. Legacy Hospice’s attentive care was also greatly appreciated.
