Beatrice Davis Gourdon

April 1, 1921 — September 24, 2014

Beatrice Davis Gourdon, 93, went to rest with The Lord on September 24, 2014 as she was surrounded by family. Beatrice, also known as Mama & Mammaw, was born April 1, 1921 in Slocum, Arkansas to Uric and Fannie Davis. Beatrice was famous for her hand-made quilts within which she took much pride and are in homes across the world. Her claim to fame was selling quilts to actress, Liza Minelli and singer/actress Dolly Parton during the filming of Steel Magnolias. She enjoyed gardening and the family ate many meals which consisted of home grown vegetables. Her family enjoyed large family gatherings during the holidays where laughter spilled from the windows. Generations of children have fond memories of playing with the exact same toys that can still be found today in what is commonly known as the "toy closet". Everyone remembers picking up pecans, riding bikes, and playing tag at Mammaw's house. Beatrice loved telling stories from the past and always had a meal ready for anyone that dropped by, with pecan pie being a family favorite. Beatrice is survived by children Eugene (Elaine) Gourdon of Clarence, LA, Linda (Leon, deceased) Watson of Winder, GA, Glenn (Judy) Gourdon Sr. of Coushatta, LA and Darlene (Don) Perkison of Carrollton, TX; 10 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 4 great, great grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Henry N. Gourdon, great grandson Colton Gourdon and sisters Tilda Belongia, Ruby Viscardis, Vonita Dardeau, Dorothy McDaniel, and brother Earl Davis. Pallbearers will be Thomas Gourdon, Cody Gourdon, Justin Gourdon, Richard Gourdon, Michael Brugette and Steven Wales. Honorary pallbearers will be Todd Watson, Trent Watson, and Glenn Gourdon II. Visitation will be held at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches from 8:30 to 10:00 am with funeral services immediately following on Saturday, September 27. Beatrice will be laid to rest at Clear Lake Cemetery.
