A celebration of Mr. Barry Finkel’s life will be at 2 pm Sunday, October 12, 2014 in the chapel of Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home. Committal services will be at 2 pm Monday, October 13, 2014 at Mason Cemetery in Arp, Texas. The family will receive friends from 5 pm until 7 pm on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home of Natchitohces.
Mr. Finkel, age 61 and a resident of Natchitoches passed away Friday, October 10, 2014 at Natchitoches Regional Medical Center. Barry was born to Dr. Barney and Lillian Finkel on June 14, 1953 in St. Louis, MO. He was raised and educated in his beloved hometown of St. Louis. He attended William Jewel Baptist College and earned a Bachelor’s degree of Economics & Business. He lettered on the William Jewel swim team, which fostered a life-long love affair with swimming and scuba diving. Barry then pursued his Jurisprudence degree of law from his beloved University of Miami. He will forever be a “Miami Hurricane”. He practiced law in both Missouri and Texas and after 20 years as a lawyer, Barry began a new adventure as a teacher. His teaching career spanned east Texas in the following: Pine Tree ISD, Tyler ISD, and Longview ISD. After moving to Louisiana, he worked at Natchitoches Central, East Middle Lab School and recently for Red River School Board in Coushatta, LA. Barry’s legacy of life was having a heart as big as all outdoors, and was lovingly known to his nieces and nephews as “uncle bunny”. Barry was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church of Natchitoches.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Barney and Lillian Finkel.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, D’ Wanna Kay Finkel of Natchitoches, LA; sons, Denis Jacob Finkel of Natchitoches, LA and Nick Finkel and his wife Kerri of Kansas City, MO; brothers, Dr. Michael Finkel and his wife Dina of Naples, FL and Jeff Finkel and his wife Bonnie of Dallas, TX; sister, Janice Schweiter and her husband Dr. John Schweiter of Johnson City, TN; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.
