Bessie Lee Woodel Floyd, age 91, of Natchitoches, LA, died Wednesday, October 15, 2008, at Heritage Manor Rehabilitation and Retirement Center in Natchitoches, LA. Arrangements are being handled by Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches, LA. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM Friday, October 17, 2008 at the Hickory Grove Congregational Methodist Church in Robeline, LA. The funeral service will be at Hickory Grove Congregational Methodist Church at 2:00 PM Saturday, October 18, 2008 , with Rev. Brian Jennings and Sis. Peggy Maricelli officiating. Interment will be at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Robeline, LA.
Mrs. Bessie was a strong-spirited person. She never lost her sense of humor or will to survive in her hardest trials. She always lifted the Name of the Lord higher than anything in her life. She loved to laugh and joke. She was a charter member of the Hickory Grove Congregational Methodist Church in Robeline. Mrs Bessie loved her nursing home family. Mr. Brian Martin and his staff at the Heritage Manor were very helpful in her time of need, and the family is eternally thankful. She loved her family more than anything, and will be greatly missed by all.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Floyd; her parents, John Woodel and Rosa VanVechkovan Woodel; one daughter, Shirley Broadway, one son, Earnest Colston; three grandsons, Gerry Broadway, Shannon Gibson, and Timothy Floyd; and one son-in-law, Chester Gibson.
She is survived by her five daughters, Theresa Gibson of Natchitoches, LA, Kathy Warren and husband Danny of Provencal, LA, Johnnie Gorham and husband Jack of Shreveport, LA, Dottie Jenkins and husband Jack of Humble, TX, and Gilda Jenkins and husband Elton of Robeline, LA; two sons, James Floyd and wife Shirley of Natchitoches, LA and Tommy Floyd and wife Diane of Natchitoches, LA; one sister, Mertie Davis of Natchitoches, LA; twenty three grandchildren; thirty eight great-grandchildren; and thirteen great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jeffery Broadway, Randy Jenkins, Drew Gibson, Josh Jenkins, Tommy Colston, III, Daniel Warren, Aubrey Hyde, and Stacy LaCaze.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Johnnie Jenkins, Dustin King, Curt Floyd, Jason Warren, Steven Warren, Jerry Broadway, and Lane Broadway.
