Litton Bryan Nugent

Funeral services for Litton Bryan Nugent were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, 2014 at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches with Rev. Wade Merrell officiating. Afterward, burial took place at Cleaveland Cemetery in Lena. Visitation was Saturday at Blanchard St. Denis from 5-9 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. until service. Pallbearers were Kevin Nugent, Jason Nugent, Craig Nugent, Brett Nugent, Ryan Gordon and Timothy Miller. Honorary pallbearers were Scott Nugent, Kelvin Deloach, Derrick Lee, Rick Julian, Robert Phillips, David Nugent and Dalton LaCaze. Dr. Litton Bryan Nugent, 68, of Natchitoches passed away Wednesday, Nov. 26 at Christus Highland Medical Center, after complications from a long battle with ALL Leukemia. A native of Lena, Litton graduated from Northwestern State University with three degrees: a B.S. in Science Education (1968), a M.Ed. in Physics Ed. (1973) and an Ed.D. in Secondary Teaching with an emphasis in Physics (1989). He was primarily a high school teacher, retiring in 2007 after 40 years of touching many lives with excellent instruction and storytelling. He was also an adjunct professor at NSU for many years. Furthermore, he was an Asbestos Inspector for Louisiana from 1983 to 2011. He enjoyed preaching at Galbraith Church of God in Lena. His many hobbies included gardening, farming, plant hybridization, airplane piloting, spending time with his wife, Anna, hunting with his son, Brandon and discussing astrophysics with his daughter, Jenna. He was preceded in death by his parents, Litton and Lucille Nugent. Those left to treasure his memory include his wife of 35 years, Anna Nugent of Natchitoches; two children, Jenna Miller and her husband Timothy from Norman, OK and Brandon Nugent of Beaumont, TX; 10 siblings , Leavy Nugent and wife Judy of Plain Dealing, Joanna Smith and husband Cecil of Deville, Steve Nugent and wife Mary of Effie, Jerry Nugent and wife Theresa of Lena, Gail Barham and husband Steve of Quitman, Lansing Nugent and wife Laura of Marthaville, Bill Nugent of Lena, Sharon Gordon of Lena, Dana Nugent and wife Kathy of Pineville and Violet Parker and husband Keith of Boyce; two aunts, Bernice Owens of West Monroe and Mittie Durham and husband George of Norman, OK; uncle, Jimmy Nugent and wife Janice of Lexington, KY, and many nieces and nephews.
