Funeral services for Jessie James 'Tiny' Sylvie will be held Wednesday, November 18, 2008 at 11:00 am in St. Augustine Catholic Church with Rev. Jacob Thomas officiating. Burial will be in St. Augustine Catholic Cemetery at Melrose, La. under the direction of Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 17, 2008 from 5 PM until 9 PM with a Rosary at 7 PM and visitation on Wednesday, November 18, 2008 from 8 am until 10:00 am in Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home at 848 Keyser Avenue, Natchitoches, La. 71457.
"Tiny", age 88, of Natchitoches went to be with the Lord on November 15, 2008.
He proudly served in US Army during WWII and short stop for the Natchitoches Red Sox. For many years he was a UAW Chief Union Stewart at Searles Manufacturing Company. He displayed more courage and bravery than most. He was known for fighting crime and his dedication to the community. Tiny will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Martha; two brothers, Ben Sylvie and Edward Sylvie; and one sister, Teta Moran. Tiny was born on December 23, 1919 in Derry, LA to the late Jesse James Sylvie (Pep) and the late Doretta Couty Sylvie (Dolly).
Tiny is survived by his loving wife Corine; two sons, Jesse (Carol) Sylvie and Joseph (Joy) Sylvie; and one daughter; Dorretta (Timothy) O'Brien. He is also survived by three sisters, Isabel Arceneaux of Cane River, La., Julia Brossette of Natchitoches, La., and Rosa Sarpy of Natchitoches, La.; four brothers, Numa Sylvie of Indian Head, Md., Roy Sylvie of Houston, Tx., Armand Sylvie of Chicago, Il., and Lynell 'Doc' Couty of Derry, La.; 13 grandchildren, Elina Marie Csontos, Regina Santana, Timothy O'Brien, Kyle O'Brien, Angelina O'Brien, Joseph O'Brien, Natalie Sylvie, Carlos Sylvie, Alex Sylvie, Christopher Sylvie, Joseph Sylvie, Brent Sillavan, and Jennifer Sillavan; and 9 great-grandchildren.
