Luther "Woody" Cox

Luther Woodrow "Woody" Cox of Natchitoches passed away on January 22, 2015 at the Natchitoches Parish Hospital. Woody was born on September 10, 1939. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, January 25, 2015 at Trinity Baptist Church in Natchitoches, LA with Rev.’s Ron Thomas, Joshua Currie, and Bruce Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Lawn Cemetery in Natchitoches, LA. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on January 24, 2015 at Trinity Baptist Church in Natchitoches, LA. He was preceded in death by parents Leven and Ida Mae Cox, brothers Edward Burton "Buddy" Cox and Bobby Wayne Cox. He is survived by his wife Jackie Cox of Natchitoches; sister Louise Self and husband Ralph Self of Alexandria, Louisiana; daughter Jeslynn Thomas and husband Ron Thomas of Swartz, Louisiana; daughter Melissa Latvala and husband Tom Latvala of Columbus, Ohio; daughter Becky Vines and husband Dewayne Vines of Pineville, Louisiana. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Aaron Thomas and wife Anna Thomas of Lafayette, Louisiana; Ashley Thomas Coen and husband Adam Coen of Hurst, Texas; Alex Latvala of Columbus, Ohio; Matt Vines, Jacob Vines, and Joey Vines of Pineville, Louisiana. He was also blessed by the birth of his first great-grandaughter, who was given the name of Ida Mae Thomas in honor of Woody's mother. As an electrician, Woody was well-known throughout the community, answering service calls at all hours in homes, businesses and churches. Methodist pastor Doug de Graffenried wrote, "Jesus is the light of the world, ...but Woody keeps all of Jesus' lights on for the Sunday crowd." Woody kept the lights on all over his community. He never met a stranger, and he loved a good cup of coffee and conversation. Woody was very involved at Trinity Baptist Church in Natchitoches, where he attended since 1955 and served as a deacon for over fifty years. Woody's love of God, his family, his church, and his friends defined who he was. Those honored to be pallbearers are Alex Latvala, Aaron Thomas, Matt Vines, Jacob Vines, Joey Vines, Adam Coen, and Shawn Scroggins.
