Rufus "Chief" Joseph Davis, Sr.

Rufus “Chief” Joseph Davis, Sr. was born in the Adai Indian Community, Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana on March 12, 1918 and passed away on March 10, 2015 within two days of his 97th birthday in Beaumont, TX. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jim Davis and Dona Moore Davis; his brothers, Jeff Davis and Fred Sanchez, Jr.; and his sisters, Adeline Davis Bustamento, Bertha Davis Stringfellow, and Vilma Moore. He is survived by his sons, Chief Rufus Davis, Jr. and wife Ann and Ralph Davis and wife Rose; his daughters, Terry Elaine Davis Bryant, Evy Davis LaBorde and husband Mike, and Jo Ann Martin and husband Jason; his sister, Wilma Moore; 13 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Chief Davis is a member of the Adai Indian Nation and a true Warrior. He was very proud of his Indian heritage. As a young man he began work in the oilfields of East Texas and a few years later became a member of the Local Union 195 and worked in the petro chemical industry as a Pipefitter/Welder, Beaumont, Texas. He was a friend to many and will be greatly missed. Pallbearers are his grandsons, Mark Davis, Greg Davis, Gary Bass, Keith Bass, Chris Martin, and nephew, Don Sanches. Honorary pallbearers are grandson, Darren Davis; and nephews, Jim Davis and Clyde Bustamento The visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2015 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Blanchard St. Denis Chapel with a rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 13, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church in the Adai Indian Community near Robeline. Father John Pardue will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Anne Catholic Cemetery.
