Funeral services for Retha Downs Lauw will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, June 8, 2015 at Old Pisgah Baptist Church in Belmont, LA with Rev. Dean Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Bethany Cemetery in Marthaville, LA. The family will receive friends from 9:00 am until 11:00 am on June 8, 2015 at Old Pisgah Baptist Church in Belmont, LA. Retha Lauw, 88 years of age, passed away June 4, 2015. She was born November 29, 1926 in Marthaville, LA. She was a hardworking, lovable lady, who cherished her family dearly. She enjoyed life, and got the most out of it by trusting in God for all things. She taught her children to serve the Lord, and showed them what it meant to never give up. She was a loving mother and grandmother, she was compassionate, and she loved to cook. She welcomed everyone in her home for meals, for couldn't stand the thought of anyone going hungry. She lived a simple life, she derived great enjoyment form fishing, and didn't love anything more than spending time with her grandchildren. She will be missed. She is survived by her daughters, Belva Welch and her husband Jessey of Robeline, LA and Martha Bova of Robeline, LA; eight grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; her two sisters, Alma Glaspie and Lela Durr; and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom loved her dearly. She is preceded in death by her son, Alvin Lauw; her parents, Jewell Benjamin Downs and Effie Marine Shoemaker Downs; two sisters, Alice Durr and Janelle Berley; and one brother, Paul Downs.
