Funeral service for Oscar Ray Vails will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, August 28, 2015 at Blanchard - St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches, LA with Brother David Matlock and Brother George Holland officiating. Interment will follow at Sanders Cemetery in Goldonna, LA. The family will receive friends Thursday, August 27, 2015 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Blanchard - St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches, LA. Oscar Vails, 81 years of age, passed away August 26, 2015. Oscar was born February 13, 1934 to the late Johnny and Jessie Vails in Natchitoches, LA. Mr. Vails served his country during 1953-1957 with the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Hamul. After service life he joined the Natchitoches Fire Department as a rookie fireman. After 11 years of service he was approved and appointed Fire Chief for the City of Natchitoches. He later retired after 30 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny and Jessie Vails; and a sister, Madeline Rodgers of Winnfield, LA. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 60 years, Charlene Vails of Natchitoches, LA; his daughter, Debbie James and husband Mackey of Natchitoches, LA; his grandson, Shane Bobbitt of Natchitoches, LA; his granddaughter, Amanda Tingle and husband Damon of Midland, TX; his great grandson, Seth Allen Bobbitt of New Boston, TX; his great granddaughter, Macaylah Lynn Tingle of Midland, TX; his two brother in laws, Charles D. Heck and wife Ann and son Jason of Winnfield, LA. and Glen Heck and wife Bonnie and Son Darryl of Winnfield, LA; cousins, Brenda Rogers Robinson and husband W.A. of Natchitoches, LA, Huey Ray Rogers and wife Frankie of Winnfield, LA, and Troy Lynn Rodgers of Winnfield, LA. He also leaves behind many hunting and fishing friends. Those honored to serve are the active and retired members of the Natchitoches Fire Department.
