A Mass of Christian burial for Charles Paul Metoyer will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Isle Brevelle, LA with Father Charles Ray officiating. Interment will follow at St. Augustine Catholic Cemetery in Isle Brevelle, LA. The family will receive friends from 9:00 until 11:00 am in the church with a rosary at 10:30 on September 12, 2015 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Isle Brevelle, LA.
Metoyer, 78 years of age and a native of Natchitoches, passed away September 3, 2015. Charles lived in Alexandria until he married and then moved to New Orleans where he lived out the rest of his years. He was under the care of Passages Hospice in New Orleans.
He was an employee of South Central Bell Telephone Co. for 30 years before he retired. He was one of the first men of color hired in Louisiana. He served as a mechanic in the US Army, Armed Forces, 2nd ARB 50th Infantry and was stationed at Ft Hamilton, New York and Germany. During this time he was awarded a medal of Good Conduct.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas Metoyer, Sr. and Orelean Mullon Metoyer; and brother, Alvin N. Metoyer.
He is survived by his wife Mary Bonette Metoyer of New Orleans, LA; son, Charles Paul Metoyer, II of New Orleans, LA; siblings, James Metoyer of Marrero, LA, Betty Ann Chelette, Nicholas Metoyer, Jr., Donald Metoyer, Herman Metoyer, Theodore Metoyer, Mary Yancy of Alexandria, LA and Herbert Metoyer of Chicago, IL.
