Funeral service for Helen Speir Couvillon will be at 10 am Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Strange Methodist Church Cemetery in Readhimer, LA. The family will receive friends from 9 am until service time on Tuesday the 29th at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home.
Helen Speir Couvillon, 91 years of age, passed away Friday, September 25, 2015 in Bossier City, LA. She was born December 22, 1923 to James Clate Speir and Ada Lee (Tyler) Speir in Chestnut, LA. She was a graduate of Readhimer High School. Being a member of the greatest generation, upon graduation she moved to New Orleans and worked in shipyards to assist with the War effort. After the War, she worked many years in the banking industry including when she and her husband returned to Natchitoches and worked for City Bank many years. Later in life they owned and operated a local bakery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence “Larry” Couvillon; her parents, James and Ada Lee Speir; her siblings, Hilda Speir Butler, Shirley Speir Copeland, Earl Speir and Harry Speir.
She leaves to cherish her memory two nieces, Hilda Butler Pratt and her husband Don of Haughton, LA and Carol Butler Hatcher and her husband Bill of Waller, TX; a nephew, Wayne Johnson of Coushatta, LA; and niece in law, Jennette Butler of Natchitoches, LA; and a nephew in law, Edward Piptone of New Orleans, LA; as well as numerous great nieces and great nephews.
