Jackie O'Neal Prothro, age 74, of Natchitoches, LA, passed away Friday, March 6, 2009, at Overton Brooks Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Shreveport, LA. Arrangements are being handled by Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches, LA, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM Saturday, March 7, 2009. The funeral service will be at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home at 2:00 PM Sunday, March 8, 2009, with Rev. Bill Hudson, Rev. Mike Honzell, and Rev. Johnny Dunn officiating. Interment will be at Old Bethel Baptist Cemetery in Natchitoches, LA.
Jackie was born July 13, 1934 in Shreveport, LA. He served in the Army from 1954 to 1957 during the Korean Conflict. He travelled extensively around the world working in the oil field. Later in life he enjoyed knifemaking, hunting, and working in his shop. He was a member of Westside Baptist Church. His life revolved around his family and he will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin Prothro and Gertrude Dowden Prothro; and one granddaughter, Morgan Elizabeth Prothro.
He is survived by his wife Mary “Lou” Prothro of Natchitoches, LA; two daughters, Donna L Prothro and fiancé Chuck Mitchell of Natchitoches, LA and Penny L Prothro and fiancé Ken Gray of Natchitoches, LA; four sons, Michael O. Prothro and wife Robin of Natchitoches, LA, Morgan R. Prothro and wife Deloris of Natchitoches, LA, Damon L. Prothro and wife Melinda of Natchitoches, LA, and Steven L. Prothro of Natchitoches, LA; six grandchildren, Jerry Cobb and wife Erin, Dustin Prothro, Lindsay Prothro, Leah Prothro, Amber Prothro, and Nathan Prothro; one great grandchild, Raif Cobb; and two step-grandchildren, Malory and Tyler.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Cobb, Kevin Morgan, Terry Scott, Ken Gray, Thomas Scott, and Shawn Rutledge. Honorary Pallbearers will be J. L. Dixon, Paul Jordan, Kenneth (Hap) Wailes, Terrell Scott, John Ammons, and Norman Norsworthy.
