A service to celebrate the life of Ruben Jessie “R.J.” Sims will be at 10 am Friday, December 4, 2015 in the chapel of Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home with Bro. Jeff Maylock officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Lambertown Cemetery in Robeline, LA. The family will receive friends from 6 pm until 8 pm on Thursday, December 3, 2015 at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home.
On November 29, 2015, Ruben J. Sims stepped into eternal glory and received his eternal reward. He was reunited with his wife of 65 years, Gladys Marie (Smith) Sims; his parents, Jake and Fannie (Freeman) Sims; his sister, Dorothy Kidd; his brothers, Lewis Sims and Clyde Sims; and a grandson, Adam Sims.
Ruben was born on July 2, 1926 in Robeline, LA. He proudly served in the United States Army during World War II in the 11th Airborne Division and was stationed in the Pacific Theatre of combat. During his service, he received 2 bronze stars for valor and a purple heart. Being a man very proud of his patriotic service, he remained a member of the VFW 1962 and the American Legion Post 10 in Natchitoches for many years. He worked and retired after 35 years of service with Tennessee Gas Company. An avid outdoorsman, he was a long-time member of the Northwest LA Fox Hunters Association and received numerous awards for the hunting dogs he raised. He was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather who was an excellent provider for his family. Although he will be greatly missed, the family takes comfort in knowing he is in a much better place today.
He is survived by one daughter, Beverly Lester and husband Marvin of Natchitoches, LA; three sons, Ruben Frank Sims of Natchitoches, LA, Arnold "Dale" Sims and wife Frances of Natchitoches, LA, and Kenneth Dewayne Sims and wife Lucy of Hattiesburg, MS; and a brother, Billy Sims of Marthaville, LA. He was blessed with 8 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers include: Doug Lester, Mark Lester, Shea Sims, Luke Sims, Derek Sims, and Brett Sims. Honorary pallbearers will be Kolton Lester and Brenton Lester.
