Monty Doggett, age 57, of Natchitoches, LA, passed away Sunday, March 15, 2009, at his home in Natchitoches, LA. Arrangements are being handled by Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches, LA, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, March 17, 2009. The funeral service will be at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home at 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 18, 2009, with Rev. Roger Merschbrock officiating. Interment will be at Memory Lawn Cemetery in Natchitoches, LA.
Judge Doggett was a kind-hearted and patient man with an impeccable wit. He was an avid golfer and was a graduate from Natchitoches High School, Northwestern State University, and Loyola University Law School. He achieved many goals in his professional career.
He was a chairman of the Natchitoches Municipal Fire and Police Civil Service Board; a NSU Adjunct Professor, teaching Paralegal and Pre-Law Courses; a chairman of the American Cancer Society Fund Drive; a member of the Natchitoches Parish Bar Association and Louisiana State Bar Association; a Natchitoches Parish Indigent Defender, a City Court Indigent Defender, and a Natchitoches Parish Juvenile Defender; Judge Ad Hoc for City Court of Natchitoches, a member of the Third Circuit Court of Appeal Judge Association; co-founder of the Natchitoches Parish Juvenile Teen Court Program and Natchitoches Truancy Court; Chief District Judge for 6 years; and was a member of the Natchitoches Jaycees, the Rotary Club, and Promise Keepers.
He made many life-long friends in his service to Natchitoches Parish, and will be greatly missed by all.
He is survived by his two daughters, Allison Doggett of Shreveport, LA and Nicole Doggett of Austin, TX; one son, Monty Doggett, Jr. of Baton Rouge, LA; his parents, Melvin L. Doggett and Mardy Graham Doggett of Natchitoches, LA; and the mother of his children, Jeanne Doggett of Natchitoches, LA.
He is preceded in death by his younger brother, Melvin Doggett, Jr.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Bostick, Gary DeBlieux, Jim Pierson, Louie Bernard, Robert Salim, and Bob Morrow.
