Funeral services for Minerva Coutee Horn will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, December 7, 2015 at Blanchard - St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches, LA with Pastor Dorothy M. Lee officiating. Interment will follow at Weaver Cemetery in Flora, LA. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on December 6, 2015 at Blanchard - St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches, LA. Minerva Horn, 96 years of age, passed away December 2, 2015 in Shreveport, LA. She was born January 19, 1919 in Cloutierville, LA. Nanny raised her children, help raise most of her grandchildren, and even some of her great and great-great grandchildren. She helped raise friends from the neighborhood and friends of her children. most of them called her mom or nanny. If anyone needed a place to sleep, get something to eat, or have their clothes washed, they knew they could go to her house. She could throw a fit and empty the house real quick as well, though; but she always had a great big heart. She worked for thirteen years at the Shriners Hospital before she retired. One thing she always did when a baby came to her house was give it a taste of a biscuit dipped in coffee. She was going to do that no matter what anyone thought. She was a special person and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. She is survived by her two children, Jules Slate Gilcrease of Natchitoches, LA and Mary Shields of Shreveport, LA; ten grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; and one sister, Essie Coutee Basco. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Shep Coutee and Juia Loudrige Coutee; three husbands, Slate Gilcrease, Peck Powell, and Joseph B. Horn; three sisters, Leona Coutee, Estella Coutee, and Annie Mae Coutee; and one brother, Bobby Coutee. Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Ryan Behrend, Nathan Behrand, Eddie Ray, Joseph Williams, Bobby Gilcrease, Chris Gilcrease, Steven Gilcrease, and Weston Williams.
