Funeral Services for Marguerite Sutton Matthews will be at 11am Monday, April 20, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church of Natchitoches with the Reverends James Poole and Donald Avery officiating. Internment will follow at Memory Lawn Cemetery of Natchitoches under the direction of Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at Blanchard St. Denis on Sunday, April 19, 2009 from 6 pm until 8 pm.
Mrs. Matthews passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2009 at Natchitoches Regional Medical Center. She was born in Clarence, LA on May 30, 1915 but lived in Natchitoches, LA for over 70 years. She graduated from Northwestern where she was a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority and taught in the Natchitoches Parish School System for several decades. She was a long time member of the 1st United Methodist Church in Natchitoches and a member of the St. Denis Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She loved gardening, traveling in Europe, and her family.
Mrs. Matthews was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.W.C. Sutton and brothers, C.B. Sutton and H.M. Sutton.
She is survived by her only child John Neely Bryan and his wife Sandra R Bryan of Austin, TX; granddaughter Jennifer Bryan McDaniel, her husband Lance and their children Alex and Shannon McDaniel of Washougal, WA; grandson Lt. Col. John N Bryan Jr. of Washington, D.C and his daughter Brantley Bryan ; and Paige Bryan, grand daughter-in-law; sister, Iona Lane-Burslem of Natchitoches, La; brother Col. A.B. Sutton of Lafayette, La; nieces Beverly Young and her husband Richard of Alexandria, La, Lynn Barry of Los Angeles, Ca, Laurie Hienz, Jan Sutton, Lelia Peyronnin and her husband Paul ,all of New Orleans, La, and many grand nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Ken Anderson, Gene Knecht, John Ropp, John Bryan IV, W. K. Norman, and Bert Boone.
