James E. “Pete” Brown, 92 years of age, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2016. He was born July 7, 1925 in Zwolle, LA, the first born child of Herbert G. Brown and Myrtie Brown.
A WWII veteran, Pete served as a Sea Bee in the U.S. Navy from 1941 until 1943. After the war, he settled in Natchitoches Parish with his wife Barbara to work and raise a family. His particular passions were gardening and fishing. Many in Natchitoches would remember his worm farm. in 1996, Barbara's declining health necessitated their move to Elm Grove, LA to be nearer to their children.
Mr Brown is survived by his children, John Daniel Brown and wife Sheila, Carol Brown Awalt and husband Donald, Jerry Dan Brown and wife Karen, and foster daughter, Mavis Tackett. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Cashmir Magee, Christopher Brown, Allison Murray, David Awalt and their spouses; and four great grandchildren, with another due anyday.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Barbara Vercher Brown; his brothers, Jerry Brown and Joe Brown; and his sister, Juanita Davis.
Graveside services for James E. "Pete" Brown will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Memory Lawn Cemetery in Natchitoches, LA with officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Lawn Cemetery in Natchitoches, LA. The family will receive friends from 9:00 am until 9:45 am on January 30, 2016 at Blanchard - St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches, LA.
