Lawrence "Cokey" Carnahan, Jr.

A Memorial Mass for Lawrence “Cokey” Carnahan, Jr. will be at 11 am Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Cloutierville with Rev. Kenneth Obiekwe serving as celebrant. The family will receive friends from 10 am until the time of Mass at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church located at 423 LA-495, Cloutierville, LA 71416. Cokey Carnahan, 81 years of age and a resident of Cloutierville, passed away Saturday, February 13, 2016 in Shreveport, LA. He was born November 12, 1934 to Lawrence M. Carnahan, Sr. and Corine Scruggs Carnahan. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and was also in the reserves after completing his active duty. He held a Masters of Business from Northwestern State University and was successful at all of his ventures in life. He taught business classes at Cloutierville High School for several years, was a successful farmer and cattle rancher, owned one of the first crawfish farms in North Louisiana and was the founder of the Crawfish Hole Restaurant in Natchitoches. For many years he sat on the board of directors for City Bank & Trust, the Cotton Storage Board, and was a past president of the Levy Board. His greatest passion was being outdoors. A true Louisiana outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and was able to hunt and fish in places like Ireland, Wyoming, and New Mexico. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and will be dearly missed by his family. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Betty Brosset Carnahan; his children, Reneva Trahant and her husband Kenny, Lawrence “Bush” Carnahan, III and his wife Juanice, and William Newton Carnahan and his wife Chere. He was blessed with 6 grandchildren, Meridith Malanowski, Dr. Morgan Lang, Megan Rose Trahant, Lauren Michelle Carnahan, William Joseph Carnahan, and Wesley Carnahan; as well as 1 great grandson, Hudson Joseph Lang. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Dorothy Benefield. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Benefield, Jr., Brian Keith Benefield, Marvin Brosset, Eric Lang, Ray Johnson, and Michael Malanowski.
