Virginia Anderson Bruce

December 23, 1922 — February 29, 2016

Virginia Anderson Bruce, a life-long resident of Natchitoches LA, died on February 29, 2016, at the age of 93. A Catholic Vigil service will be Friday, March 4, 2016 at 1:00 pm at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches, LA with Rev. Ryan Humpheries serving as celebrant. Interment will follow at Beulah Cemetery in Marthaville, LA. A visitation will precede the service from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm on Friday, March 4, 2016. She is survived by three daughters, Judith Bruce of Bossier City, LA, Janet Bruce Webre of Houma, LA (wife of David Webre), and Brenda Bruce of Natchitoches, LA; four grandchildren, Ginger Webre of San Marcos, TX, Rusty Voisin of Natchitoches, LA, Robert Martin of New York City, NY, and Scott Webre of Houma, LA; and one great-granddaughter, Serenity Voisin of Watford City, ND. She was predeceased by her husband Oriell (“O.D.”) Bruce, her parents Frank and Oraline Anderson, and brother, Ray. She was a retired bookkeeper who worked for many years at Gibbs Auto Supply, and later at Southern LP Gas of Natchitoches. She enjoyed gardening, oil painting, and raising her family. She served as a volunteer for the Pink Ladies Auxiliary for the Natchitoches Parish Hospital. She was a parishioner of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, and volunteered at the Bishop Martin Museum which is housed in the Old Seminary next to the church rectory. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, and once served as the local regent. She often visited elderly and sick friends. She loved children, and could always find a “little present” for them when they came to visit. She was dearly loved by family, friends, and neighbors, who affectionately called her “Maw B”. The family wishes to thank the many caregivers including daughter Brenda, grandson Rusty, neighbor Margie Huddleston, sitters Lovene (“Puddin”) Harris and Tama Reliford, Harmony Home Health, and Hospice of Natchitoches, for their help and support. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made on Virginia’s behalf to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
