Funeral services for Marjorie Shelton Watkins, widow of the late Edwin V Watkins, Jr., will be held Saturday morning, April 23, at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches. Visitation will be at 10 am and the service at 11 am, followed by burial in the American Cemetery. Mrs. Watkins, 97, was born April 7, 1919 and died April 17, 2016. She was a native of Waterproof, LA in Tensas Parish and a longtime resident of Natchitoches. Her parents were Allen Malcolm Shelton, Sr. and Allie Mable King Shelton. She was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister. She was a retired teacher, having taught thirty years in Natchitoches Parish. She earned a B.S degree, an M.S. degree and 30+ from Northwestern State University. Memberships included First United Methodist Church, Maude Barr Circle, Lucille Hendrick Sunday School Class, Magna Carta Dames, Colonial Dames XVII Century, Lesche, APHN, Phi Omicron Pi, Natchitoches Parish Hospital Guild, Pink Ladies, and Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Celia Kay (Katy) and J Charles Parker, II of Baton Rouge, LA, a grandson, Scott Edwin Parker of Los Angeles, CA, a granddaughter, Ashley Parker Steinmetz, her husband John, their three children Hanna, Parker and Cooper of Round Rock, Texas, and a number of nieces and nephews.
