Patricia H. Dennis passed away May 19, 2009 at her home in Natchitoches, Louisiana with her funeral to be held on Saturday, May 23, 2009 (Pat would never interfere with anyone’s Friday bridge game).
Visitation to be in the Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home Chapel from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with a Memorial Service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Graveside services will be held at Pinehill Cemetery in Olla, Louisiana at 2:00 p.m. following the service. Services to be officiated by Rev. Tommy Rush of First Baptist Church, Natchitoches and under the direction of Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are David Walker, Mike Doherty, Rickie Jordan, Reece Jordan, Ryan Logan and Blake Dennis. Honorary pallbearers will be Eddie Mahan, L.J. Melder, Waddy Norman, Joe Pierson, Sr. and Gerald (Sonny) Thomas.
Mrs. Dennis was preceded in death by her parents, George H. Hays and Fannie McCartney Hays, and by her husband Dr. Ronald T. Dennis.
Left to cherish her memories are children, Rand and wife Carolyn Dennis of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Ronna Jordan of Nederland, Texas; her beloved grandchildren, Lorie Logan, Blake Dennis, Richie, Reece and Robyn Jordan; one brother, Adm. Ronald J. Hays; and one sister-in-law, Sue Phillips and husband Gil Phillips of Shreveport, Louisiana.
Patricia also loved her dear children that she inherited from her close friend Liz Landrum, Shirley and David Walker, Karen Brothers and Joe Landrum.
Mrs. Dennis graduated from Urania High School in 1947, Northwestern State University in 1950, and the University of Alabama in 1962. She taught school in West Carroll Parish at Oak Grove High School, Kilbourne High School and Forest High School. She also taught four wonderful years at Tuscaloosa High School in Alabama. She then at taught at Quitman High School in Louisiana. Mrs. Dennis also was a counselor at Beaumont High School in Texas and settled permanently at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches as a counselor and teacher until she retired in 1988. She remained busy after retiring cooking, traveling, fishing and playing bridge (Life Master) with her friends.
She enjoyed playing with her children and grandchildren. She supported various civic and charitable projects. Pat loved her church and her church family who have been so supportive and loving to her.
Pat has expressed the wish that she be missed but remembered with love and laughter by her family and friends. Her family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to all of Pat’s dear friends for their unflagging support and love.
Rand and Ronna also wish to extend a special thanks to Pat’s dear friends for their tireless, compassionate, and loving support and guidance through these last difficult months.
