He was born February 5, 1938 at his family home in Robeline, Louisiana, the youngest of five children. At the age of 18, he joined the United States Air Force, serving as an electronics specialist and an Aerial Gunner with the 864th Bomb Squadron, stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas. He joked about seeing the world backwards from the tail of a B-52. After leaving the military, he spent another eleven years as an Air Traffic Control Specialist, working in Longview, Houston and the Dallas/Fort Worth area. After moving back to Louisiana in 1976, he was employed with the Natchitoches Parish Police Jury Highway Department. He later served as Purchasing Agent for the Police Jury until his retirement in 1998. His favorite activity was going – anywhere, anytime. For him, it was the not so much the destination but the journey that gave him pleasure. He was gifted with a love of singing, which lead him to becoming a square dance caller. He was a charter member of the Lakeside Twirlers Square Dance Club in Many, Louisiana, and enjoyed calling dances in the local area as well as surrounding states and New Mexico. After a lengthy illness, he passed away at his family home place in Robeline, surrounded by his wife of 57 years and his loved ones. The family wishes to thank friends and family for their prayers and support. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Doris Thomas Winn of Robeline, LA; his sons, Rodney D. Winn and wife Debbie of Eucutta, MS and Byron Stanley Winn and Joyce Bowman of Gainsville, GA; his two daughters, Donna Stephens and husband Reese of Robeline, LA and Jennifer Ann Simolke and husband Eric of Bossier City, LA; his grandchildren, Naomi Winkleblack and husband Tom, Casey Winn, Joseph Winn, Abby Winn, Haley Jefcoat, Jesse Winn and wife Melina, Greta Simolke, Stella Simolke, and Henry Max Simolke; four great grandchildren, Connor Winn, Nicole Winkleblack, Heidi Winn, and Max Jefcoat; one sister, Billie House and husband "Bo" of Lake Charles, LA; and a host of nieces, nephews, and several brother and sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Vivian Winn and Annie Leo Welch Winn; as well as two sisters, Gertrude King and Mary Mitchell; and one brother, Clyde E. Winn.
