A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Evelyn (Conlay) Land will be at 11 am Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home with Bro. Olan McLaren officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Creston, LA. The family will receive friends from 9 am until service time on Saturday the 25th at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home.
Evelyn Land, 78 years of age and a life-long resident of the Natchitoches Parish, passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2016 with her family by her side. She was born November 24, 1937 in Creston, LA to Louis and Nelvyn (Weaver) Conlay. She graduated from Creston High as Valedictorian where she excelled in sports, lettering in basketball and softball. Her working career consisted of positions held at Security Bank, Guarantee Bank of Alexandria and ultimately retiring from Peoples State Bank after many years of service. A long-time member of First Baptist Church of Natchitoches, she especially loved the fellowship of her Sunday school class. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Her greatest pleasure on earth was taking care of her family. She will be dearly missed but we take comfort in knowing we will be reunited with her one day in heaven.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Adrian Land; a son, Mike Land; a daughter, Lisa Land Johnson and her husband Andy and two sisters, Shirley Dobson and husband Ben and Melba Weaver and husband Melvin; She was blessed with 3 grandchildren, Emily Johnson, Hannah Johnson and Tyler Johnson as well as two nieces, Allison Dobson and Susan Weaver; and a nephew, David Dobson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Nelvyn Conlay; and a nephew, Scott Weaver.
In lieu of floral tributes, the family asks contributions in Mrs. Evelyn’s name be made to Davis Springs Methodist Church building fund, 203 Davis Springs Road, Campti, LA 71411.
