Donald Thomason, 84 years of age, passed away July 13, 2016. He was born October 31, 1931 in Larned, KS. Donald was a "live-wire"; a practical joker; an honest man. He loved to pull pranks on people, he loved fast cars, playing cards and pool, and spending time working outdoors and in his garden. He had a great passion for sports, so much so, that no one was allowed to interrupt his concentration when a game was on. He was a man of his word, a trait he took great pride in. Every career he had was dangerous. He was a Golden Glove Boxer, a 20-plus year retired Army Medic, and a Death Row Guard at Angola State Penitentiary. He had a love for dogs, raising Dobermans as family pets. But most importantly, he was a family man. He loved his family with all of his heart. He left his mark on them for certain, and will not be soon forgotten.
He is survived by his daughter, Sandra Hershey of Houston, TX; his son, Leroy Norris of Mooringsport, LA; his grandchildren, Kandi Bowden and husband Micheal of Houston, TX, Karen Brown and husband Jerry of Tyler, TX, Tracye LaCour and husband Chris of Farmersville, TX and Jamie Mattice and husband Daniel of Farmersville, TX; eleven great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Aline Horton Thomason; his parents, Elva and Theron Randall; and two sisters, Joan Slay and Shirley Hauser.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers include: Leroy Norris, Jerry LaCour, Bradley LaCour, Joseph Boehm, Micheal Bowden and Jerry Brown.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Donald’s memory.
