Funeral services for Melvin R. “Brown” Nichols will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at Blanchard - St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches, LA with Rev. Oliver Deen and Rev. Ralph Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Kisatchie Cemetery in Kisatchie, LA. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm on July 18, 2016 at Blanchard - St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches, LA. Melvin Nichols, 72 years of age, passed away July 16, 2016. He was born September 9, 1943 in Gorum, LA. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Judith Johnson Nichols of Kisatchie, LA; his daughter, Sharon Nichols Carney and husband Johnny of Powhatan, LA; his son, Robert P. Nichols of Natchitoches, LA; his grandsons, Trey Carney and wife Meagan and James Carney; a special family friend, Maritza Escalona of Caracas, Venezuela; his brothers, Claude Nichols and wife Margaret of Cloutierville, LA, Bob Nichols of Gorum, LA, and Jack Nichols and wife Janice of Chopin; his sisters, Irene Fabian of Natchitoches, LA, Dolly Martin of Flatwoods, LA, Maggie Kopp and husband Harry of Palacios, TX; a sister-in-law, Kathy Legget of Natchitoches, LA; brother-in-law, Ralph Johnson and wife Joy of Natchitoches, LA; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Mary Eler Nichols; his brothers, Doc. C. Nichols and Webster Nichols; and his sisters, Mildred Martin and Tommy Lorece Woods. Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be John Salter, Bob Lodridge, James Carney, Johnny "Trey" Carney, III, Rodney Salard, and Melvin "Nick" Nichols. Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Carney, Jr., Roy Lodridge, Al Poston, Jacob Johnson, Randy Leggett, Claude Nichols, Jack Nichols, and Bob K. Nichols. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Kisatchie Baptist Church, or to a charity of your choice, in memory of Brown.
