A native of Natchitoches and a resident of Baton Rouge for the past 19 years, Joseph Douglas Deloney, 75, passed away at his home at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, June 27, 2009, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Visitation at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home will be Tuesday, June 30 from 9 a.m. until the service at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Fern Park Cemetery.
He was born in Natchitoches to Myrtle and Jesse Deloney March 14, 1934. He was a 1952 graduate of St. Mary's High School and attended Northwestern State University. He served in the Marines during the Korean War. His work in the oil industry provided 30 years of travel to many foreign countries.
Throughout his life he enjoyed golf, LSU sports, especially football and tailgating and gathering stats to memory on any college football program ever played. He will be forever remembered as a wonderful and loving husband, father and grandfather, as well as "The King" and "Pawpaw LSU."
He is survived by his devoted wife of almost 39 years, Bobbie Dowden Deloney; brother, Francis Deloney and wife Carol; sister, Theresa Howard and husband Darryl; children, Hollykem Sunseri and husband Dean and son Moses, Jessie Ann Burnette-Schiller and husband Mark and children Rachael, James, Taylor and her son Benjamin, Van Michael, Lonnie, Jake and Josh Burnett and AnnaRae Schiller, Tinah Elizabeth Fox and husband David and son Cameron; and Stacie Annette Roberson and husband Chad and sons Austin and Alex.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Jennifer; and son-in-law, Lonni Burnett.
Pallbearers will be Jacob Burnett, James Burnett, Van Michael Burnett, Dewayne Deloney, Mark Deloney, Chris Howard and Hunter Martin. Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Bostick, Frank Brian, Kenneth Dowden, Levy Lacaze, John Grayson, Ray Penny, and James Smith.
We, the family of Joseph Douglas Deloney, wish to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to everyone for their compassionate thoughts, prayers, and acts of unselfish kindness that have brought solace to our grieving hearts.
