Bobby Alford, 85, of Natchitoches, LA, passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2016, in at Natchitoches Community Care Center in Natchitoches, LA. He was born May 24, 1931, in Bellwood, LA to W.R. Alford and Vertie Sparks Alford. Bobby served his country by joining the Air Force and had a long career before retiring after 20 years of service with the rank of Tech Sergeant. He worked the flight line on airplanes dealing with their pressurization and flew all over the world on TDY duty. He traveled to Iran, Turkey, England, and Japan, just to name a few.
During that time of service, he and his family lived overseas multiple times for a stretch of 3-4 years, before they were able to come back stateside to see family. He made lasting friendships from a lifetime of service to his country. He and Mom kept in touch with people that they served with from the very beginning. Every year, at holidays especially, they would get cards from friends that they had met and served with from when he first joined the service.
When you don’t have your real family with you, the ones you serve with become your family and bonds are formed that last a lifetime.
After retiring from the Air Force, Bobby began work at Sears & Roebuck Company as a serviceman and worked until he retired from Sears. He loved his job as a serviceman and could still to this day recall what appliance he worked on at a certain house when passing it. He enjoyed the interaction with people and always had some story to tell of what happened at a customer’s house while he was there working or delivering an appliance.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Laverne Alford; his parents; his brothers, Wilmer and Hoyt Alford; and his sisters, Grace Mae Leach, Faye Honeycutt, and Lois Leach.
He is survived by his second wife, Sarah Alford; his children, Richard Alford and wife Amy, Kenny Alford and wife Martha, and Sherry Cadwallader and husband Al; four grandchildren, Megan Goff, Alison Ross, Jessica Chandler, and Jamie Stewart; and seven great-grandchildren, Joel and Jude Goff, Ava and Brooklyn Ross, Avery Chandler, and JT and Sawyer Stewart.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to Hospice of Natchitoches and to Natchitoches Community Care for their kindness and care during Mr. Alford's illness.
