Funeral services for Lt. Col. David Crawford Young II (ret.), will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at First United Methodist Church on Second Street in Natchitoches, LA. Interment will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday in Greenwood Cemetery in Shreveport, LA. The family will receive friends Wednesday prior to the funeral service at First United Methodist from 9:00 am until 10:00 am.
David Young II, 84, of Natchitoches, LA, passed away November 25, 2016, in Natchitoches, LA. He was born February 02, 1932 in Monroe, LA to D. Crawford Young and Thelma Hood Young. A Louisiana native, David started school as a young child in Campti, LA and later finished High School at Natchitoches High, where he was able to play football. He received higher education from a broad number of colleges, including Louisiana State University, where he played a semester of football; United States Military Academy, also known as West Point, where he also played football; Harvard University; University of Georgia; and Columbia University. He later married Martha Ann Glass Young, and together they had one son, David C. Young III.
David was a patriot, giving the vast majority of his life in service to his country in the U.S. Army, earning the officer rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was one of the few soldiers to be the first deployed to Vietnam, where he served as an advisor and Generals Aid. There were just a few hundred Americans there when he arrived. He accomplished many things during his military career, including but not limited to, Parachutist, Ranger School, Nuclear School, Top Secret Clearance, advisor to Congress, and many more things that are too numerous to mention. He continued his career in the Army even after active duty by remaining in the U.S Army reserves for many years.
He had many other accomplishments in life, including his career as an investment banker on Wall Street, New York. There he worked as a Marketing Manager for Greyhound Leasing and Financial Group and as Vice-President of Marketing of Drew National Leasing Corporation. He also was heavily involved in the family timber business back in his Louisiana home.
He traveled the world extensively, seeing many changes and wonderful things over his lifetime. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, D. Crawford Young and Thelma Hood Young; and his wife, Martha Ann Glass Young.
He is survived by his son, David C. Young III and his wife Mardell of Natchitoches, LA; his grandson, David C. Young IV of New Orleans, LA; his sister, Mary Helen McCoy and her husband Dr. Steve McCoy of Norfolk, VA; and his two nephews, Stephen and Andrew McCoy.
