Vera, 97, of Marthaville, LA, passed away December 12, 2016, at the Courtyard of Natchitoches. She was born November 01, 1919 in Marthaville, LA to Albert David Moore and Dora Marie Carter Moore, who affectionately named her 'Baby Sister'. That name stuck with her until the first grade, and she had to have a real name, so she named herself Vera, after her first teacher. Yes, it is true, she actually named herself! She grew up in a simple time and led a simple life, never even learning to drive a car. But amazingly, she was still able to change the world through her children and grandchildren and the lessons she taught them.
She was strong, determined, set in her ways, witty, smart as a tack, sharp, and a woman of many talents and treasures. She loved to talk, play Yahtzee and cards, and shoot firecrackers. She was a great cook and made the best homemade biscuits. She was a hugger, loved to please people, and loved to shop for clothes. She was the best grandmother ever and will be truly missed. 'Well Anyway...'
She was survived by her children, Judy Lilley of Belmont, LA, Carolyn McCarthy and husband Bill of Houston, TX, Sandra Vinz and husband Greg of Benton, LA, Bobbie Jenkins of Bullard, TX, and Jack Jenkins and his wife Cherry of Natchitoches, LA; seventeen grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Don Moore and his wife Billie of Tuscon, AR; two daughter-in-laws, Faye and Helen Jenkins; and her special friends, Ted and Jan Singletary.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four sons, Albert Jenkins, Andy Jenkins, Jr., Dewel Lee Jenkins, and Jim Jenkins; and one daughter, Dora Marie Baker.
Those honored to be pallbearers will be J.W. Johnston, Jack Brian Jenkins, Andy 'Dru' Jenkins, III, Tyler Schlegel, Jeremy Prince, and Thomas Jenkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Ted Singletary, Donnie Wyatt, and Lindsey Schlegel.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mrs. Vera and in her daughter, Dora Bakers, memory to the Susan J. Komen Breast Cancer Society, P. O. Box 650309 Dallas, TX 75265-0309.
