Funeral services for Mamie J. Haley will be at 1 pm Tuesday, January 24, 2017, at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home with Bro. Buddy Hankins presiding over the service. Burial will follow at Provencal Cemetery in Provencal, LA. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until the time of service on the 24th at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home.
Mamie Jewell Haley, 82 years of age and a former resident of Provencal, passed away with her family by her side on Friday, January 20, 2017, in Shreveport, LA. She was born on October 14, 1934, to Levy Roy and Laura Vercher Roy in Natchitoches, LA. Mamie had the most admirable job of all; she was a stay at home wife and mother and truly cared for her family’s needs. She was a strong woman who battled cancer over a 15+ year span. A loving mother and grandmother and affectionately known as Maw-Maw to her grandchildren, she will be dearly missed but always remembered.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard D. Haley, a grandson, Neil Haley; as well as 3 sisters and 2 brothers.
She is survived by her daughter, Nell Sisson and her husband Lane of Shreveport; a son, Stanley Haley of Shreveport; a granddaughter, Lorrie Magill and her husband Jacob of Shreveport; and a great-grandson who she adored spending time with and he lightened up her life and was the apple of her eye, Grayson Magill.
The family wishes to “thank” the staff at Highland Christus Schumpert Cancer Center for the care and compassion they gave Mamie during such a difficult time as well as the staff of Amedisys Hospice Care; Shannon, Amanda, Nora & Chaplain Mr. Jim.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers include James Shoemaker, Jay Shoemaker, Stephen Orsborn, Randy Yopp and Jacob Magill.
