Mr. John Ammons passed away on April 15, 2017, he was well known, but most will remember him owning John’s General Store near the Oak Grove Community. He loved his church life and helped build Calvary Baptist Church in Natchitoches where he was also a deacon. He later helped rebuild and served as a deacon at Old Bethel Baptist Church for several years and then attended Coldwater Baptist Church where he continued to serve the Lord until his illness. He was a hard-working, God-fearing man that dedicated his life to providing for his family, serving the Lord, and instilling within his children the lessons of allowing God to be the leader in their lives, to always work, not sit, and to provide for their families. These teachings were of the utmost importance to him and in them he succeeded. He loved fishing, hunting, gardening, visiting with neighbors and keeping his yard in immaculate beauty.
He is survived by three children, Jerrie Ammons Choate, wife of Dennis Choate of Mansfield, James Owen Ammons, husband of Paula Ammons of Natchitoches, and Kristi Ammons Fair, wife of Shannon Fair of Natchitoches; one remaining sibling, a brother, Oscar E. Ammons of Texas; ten grandchildren, Joy Ammons, Jessica McGrath, Denney Choate, Jamie Grimes, Jeremy Jones, Matt Jones, Chris Oldemeyer, Jon Oldemeyer, Jessica Hurd and Jaime Rhymes. 15 great-grandchildren, numerous cousins and great friends.
