Funeral service for Mrs. Joan Key Rice will be 10:00 am Friday, September 11, 2009 at the Chapel of Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home with Reverend Thomas Rush officiating. Interment will follow at 2:00pm Friday at Mount Lebanon Cemetery in Mount Lebanon, LA. The family will receive friends from 5 PM until 8 PM Thursday, September 10, 2009 at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home. Mrs. Joan Key Rice, 75, passed away Saturday, September 5, 2009 in Natchitoches. She was born January 31, 1934 to the late Mason G. Key and late Myrtle Reese Key in Mount Lebanon, LA. Mrs. Rice has been a long time active member of the First Baptist Church of Natchitoches with a strong devotion to mission work. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband of fifty-five years, Joe M. Rice of Natchitoches, a son, Hartwell Lee Rice and his wife Stephanie of Mali, West Africa; a daughter, Lynda Rice Roberts and her husband Jim of Natchitoches; a sister, Doris Barre of Hawaii; two grandchildren Marlee and Scott Roberts. Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Jim Roberts, Scott Roberts, Rev. Harry Thompson, Jerry Ferguson, Edwin Dunahoe and Drew Moore. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mrs. Joan’s name to The Southern Baptist Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, C/O of First Baptist Church of Natchitoches and The American Lung Association, 1301 Pennsylvania Ave, Washington D.C. 20004
