Marilyn Florence Peterson Taylor passed away peacefully at her home on Sibley Lake on May 25, 2017. Services will be held at First United Methodist Church on June 1st, 2017, at 2:00 pm and burial will follow in Memory Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm at the church, prior to the service.
A loving and devoted wife and mother, she is survived by her husband of almost 53 years, Scriven A. Taylor, and three wonderful children, Michelle Camille Taylor-Johnson (and husband Michael Johnson) of Shreveport, Nicole Kristina Taylor-Casida (and husband Joe Casida) of Natchitoches, and Scriven (Sonny) Taylor, Jr. of Eugene, Oregon. Also three grandchildren: Clayton Taylor Lewis (and wife Ashley Fulton Lewis) of Natchitoches, Kayla Lynn Johnson, and Christopher Harper, and great-granddaughter McKenzi Johnson. Also her sister Ann Peterson Weimer and husband Marlin Weimer of Edina, Minnesota, niece Jennifer Lund Terwilliger and nephew Tom Lund.
Marilyn was born May 17, 1937, in Edina, Minnesota, a suburb of Minneapolis, to Florence and Gunnar Peterson. After attending the University of Minnesota, she worked in New York City, and later in San Francisco, where she met her husband who was stationed there while serving in the U.S. Navy. After his discharge, they were married July 3, 1964.
Marilyn was active in the Natchitoches community. She was a member of the Service League of Natchitoches, where she was instrumental in the publication of “Cane River Cuisine” cookbook; was a past president of Chapter AU, P.E.O.; past president of Xi Beta Sigma chapter of Beta Sigma Phi; a Scout troop leader; member of APHN (Association for the Preservation of Historic Natchitoches), serving as a tour guide in the Taylor family home (now known as “Steel Magnolia House”), and member of First United Methodist Church.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to her caregivers and Hospice of Natchitoches.
