Kenneth Methvin

Kenneth Orin Methvin died on June 18, 2017, surrounded by family and friends. He was born on November 13, 1935, to Roscoe and Clotile Methvin as the 5th of 14 children in Natchitoches Louisiana. He was married to Sara D Methvin for 53 years and had four sons Karlton Methvin married to Lisa, Timothy Methvin married to Elizabeth, Jason Methvin and Gerard Methvin. He also had four grandchildren John William, Maggie Elizabeth, Makenzie Claire and Meredith Layne. He is preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe and Clotile, and his brothers Richard Glen Methvin, Robert Luther Methvin and William Roscoe Methvin. He is survived by his wife, children and grandchildren; his brothers Daniel Methvin, Pat Methvin, Mike Methvin, Ronnie Methvin and Donnie Methvin; his sisters Adrene McKnight, Mary Francis Crayon, Linda Dowden, Millie Marquess and Joyce Ann McClanahan; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He graduated from Natchitoches High in 1954, where he played football and baseball. He briefly moved to Levelland Texas where he worked in the oilfield. He returned to Natchitoches where he continued to work in the oil field, trucking and family farm. In 1962, he met the love of his life Sara Digiovanni. They married on February 8th, 1964 and with her support, he became a dedicated farmer, growing cotton, and corn. He also worked as a conservation officer for the Louisiana State Dept. of Natural Resources. Though he had a busy and full life raising his children and grandchildren, he still found time to serve others. He was a member of the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, a member of the St Mary’s Catholic School Board, President of the Louisiana Cotton Council, board member of the National Cotton Council Producer Steering Committee, board member of the National Cotton Warehouse Association, and co-Founder and first president of Cotton Storage Inc. He also was a tireless supporter of St. Mary’s Catholic School. Kenneth Methvin was a humble man of great faith and generosity who would not hesitate to help family or friends in need He was intent on returning the many blessings that God had bestowed upon him to his fellow man. He was a devoted husband, father, son, uncle, and friend. He loved baseball, football, softball, basketball, horse racing, and Louisiana politics. Papa treasured every moment with his grandchildren and took every opportunity to support them. He loved and adored his wife of 53 years Sara. He could not have done anything without her. Because of her, he knew that God had greatly blessed him. Her love comforted and sustained him all throughout his life, even at the end. He was thankful for her and loved her deeply. He will be greatly missed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 pm on Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Rev. Scott Chemino serving as celebrant and Rev. Blake Deshautelle serving as co-celebrant. Entombment in the Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum will follow. The family will receive friends from 5 pm until 7 pm on Tuesday, June 20th at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 7 pm on Tuesday in the funeral home chapel. Those honored to be pallbearers are his only grandson John William Methvin, Phillip Dowden, Jimmy McKnight, Chad Methvin, Greg Methvin Kevin Methvin and Trent Methvin. Honorary pallbearers are Daniel Methvin, Donnie Methvin, Mike Methvin, Pat Methvin, and Ronnie Methvin as well as his cousin Jack Methvin. We, the family, would like to thank every priest, and deacon who served him and us in our time of need, as well as his doctors, the staff at the Courtyard of Natchitoches, Linda Madison, Brenda Armstrong, and Susan Sarpy. In lieu of flowers, the family prays that you make a donation to the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, or to your own church to spread the Gospel of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. There will a reception after the service for family and friends at the Knights of Columbus Hall on East 5th St. God Bless you all.
