Blanche Dale Wilson Wester

August 9, 1921 — June 19, 2017

Blanche Dale Wilson Wester passed from this life on Monday, June 19, 2017 at the age of 95. She was born on August 9, 1921, in Cadiz, Kentucky, to Alford Marion Wilson and Alice Ricks Wilson. She grew up on a farm with two brothers and three sisters. She attended a one-room school as a child and rode horseback to catch the school bus when in high school. Her memories included model T’s, hog killings, Kentucky hams, wheat and corn mills, tobacco planting and stripping, horse and buggies, heavy snows and frozen ponds, and the firsts of many technologies. She met her husband, Oather Wester, during WWII while he was a soldier at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. She followed him by train from camp to camp until he was deployed to Europe. Upon his return, they settled in Provencal and raised their family of three children. She was the secretary of the local high school for more than twenty years and retired from the Natchitoches Parish School Board in the eighties. She was an expert quilter and needlepoint artist. She was also a gifted seamstress and made many of her children’s clothes. She enjoyed traveling, fishing, reading, baking, and entertaining friends. Eating sweets was a favorite pastime. Blanche was known by all as a caring friend and gracious hostess. Many enjoyed her biscuits, brownies, and southern home cooking in her cherished home. She was a faithful member of her church and a respected member of the community. Prior to her passing, she was one of the oldest living residents of Provencal. She was an optimist who never blinked at the passing of time. Each year was a joy, and she shared this joy with three children, four grandchildren, and five great grandchildren as well as countless friends and extended family. She is preceded in death by her mother and father and five siblings. She was the last surviving member of her generation on each side of the family. She is survived by her three children Jerry Wester (Linda), Judy Wester, and Pam Jones (Ed); four grandchildren Heath Wester (Spring), Amberly Akpaffiong (Itoro), Autumn Cooper (Chris), and Megan Jones; five great grandchildren Daisy, Resi, Isabella, Garrett, and Ephraim. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Mother’s Memorial or Sheaves for Christ at the Provencal United Pentecostal Church, P.O. Box 399, Provencal, LA 71468. Honored to be pallbearers are Heath Wester, Ed Jones, Carson Custis, Michael Richardson, Hubert Gary Patterson, and Rue Shelton. Honorary pallbearers are Billy Wester, Richard Wester, Steve Wester, Layton Lawrence, Carl Ray Miller, and Kenneth Wyatt. Visitation will be at the Provencal United Pentecostal Church Thursday Evening, June 22, from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. The celebration of her life will be Friday, June 23, at 11:00 a.m. at the Provencal United Pentecostal Church. Our thanks to all friends and family for your kind condolences. A special thanks goes to Harmony Home Health, Kim Brister, Sharon Bates, and Sherry Mitchell for their diligent support. Also the excellent medical attention of Dr. Archie Breazeale, Dr. Warren Botnick, and Dr. Dennis Britten brought care and comfort to our mom.
