Dawn Martin Brouillette, 53, of Natchitoches, LA, passed away on June 24, 2017 from complications due to polycystic kidney disease.
Dawn was born in Woodbury, New Jersey, the last of six children to Lawrence and Alice Martin on March 2, 1964. Her family moved to New Orleans, LA in 1971 where she spent her childhood years. She was married to Alvin Richthofen from 1983 to 1993 during which time their son Jeremy was born in 1988. She moved to Natchitoches, LA in 1993 and married Luke Brouillette in 1995, residing in Natchitoches, LA until her passing.
Dawn had several passions. She loved the outdoors and being in nature as well as planting and tending to the flowers, plants, and trees she grew. She enjoyed many crafts such as sewing and clay modeling. She also liked reading and writing children’s books. Interacting with children was one her strong suits as all of her nieces, nephews, her son and his friends can attest.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts from Northwestern State University in Anthropology in 1996. Dawn worked at several jobs starting in her teenage years but found the most professional fulfillment with a career as a Medicaid Area Manager for the Louisiana Department of Health and Human Services. Helping people and helping others help people was an enriching and rewarding experience for her.
Dawn was preceded in death by her parents and by two siblings, her sister Chris Martin and brother Larry Martin. She is survived by son Jeremy Richthofen and his wife Susie Richthofen as well as husband Luke Brouillette. Surviving siblings are her sisters Cheryl Karczewski and Sharon Kenney and brother Tom Martin along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
A remembrance gathering will be held at the Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home, 848 Keyser Ave. in Natchitoches from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, on Thursday June 29, 2017.
