Allen Teddy Conlay (also known as A.T., Mr. Brown, and Papaw) of Natchitoches, Louisiana went to be with his Lord on Monday June 26, 2017. Allen was born on April 24, 1926 in Chestnut, Louisiana (although his sister Louise lovingly debated with him and said it was the 25th). His parents were Jim Conlay and Annie Pullig Conlay, and he had a large and loving family with seven brothers and sisters. He was loved by many and known for telling tales, his bountiful garden, his love of playing the guitar and singing his favorite country western songs, his infectious laugh, and his famous hot water cornbread and fried sweet potatoes. He served in WWII as a welder helping to build ships in New Orleans, and later worked for the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development for over thirty years. He was also an avid cattleman and farmer, and gained great joy in sharing his produce with neighbors and friends. He was blessed with many friends and visitors who would sit and talk for hours on his back porch. He married the late love of his life, Joy Marie Mixon Conlay, on June 14, 1951. They had two children, Dorothy Lane and Gary Lynn (married to Tanya Storey Conlay).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Annie Conlay; his wife, Joy Marie Conlay; granddaughter, Christina LeVasseur; and his siblings, Mary Smothers, Mable Weaver, Ruth Ronsonet, L.G. Conlay, Benton Conlay, and Harry Conlay.
Allen is survived by his two children, Gary Conlay and wife Tanya and Dorothy Conlay; seven grandchildren, Allie Conlay, Noah Conlay and wife Casey, Madison Conlay, Jason LeVasseur, Mattie Cobb, Sylvian LeVasseur and wife Jenna, and Joy Wiltz; eight great grandchildren, Tristan VandeGeval, Madeline Mayfield, Micheal Rabalais, Scarlett Cobb, Christian Kijanski, Christina Kijanski, Lillianna LeVasseur and Cole LeVasseur; and sister, Louise Sneed. He also leaves some of his best friends, Eleanor Gill, Roger Fredieu, and Cecelia Smith, who was his expert gardening partner.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers include Jason LeVasseur, Sylvian LeVasseur, Noah Conlay, Roger Fredieu, Jimmy Snead and Hugh Gentry. Honorary Pallbearers include David Conlay, Lynn Conlay, James Arnold Kimball, Glen St Andre, Frank Gill, and Steve Roberts.
