William "Bill" Pierce

February 29, 1940 — September 13, 2017

William “Bill” Pierce, A.K.A. “Papa”, 77, of Elm Grove, LA joined Christ our Lord and Savior September 13, 2017. Bill was born February 29, 1940 in Shreveport, LA. He was a caring and generous husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He worked many jobs in his lifetime as he allowed no time for grass to grow under his feet. He picked cotton as a kid, worked in a sawmill, cruised timber, sold clothing at Gibsons, owned a car lot and made many sales, rehabbed apartments, worked offshore, served many years at Grand Ecore Baptist Church as a Deacon and Sunday school teacher, sold and developed land and could dance and carry a tune like no other. We know he has re-found his beloved thrill (Gloria Pierce) on heavenly Blueberry Hill. May they sing and dance in harmony as they watch upon their loved ones from above. Bill’s most fulfilling job in life was that as a husband and a father. He was a member of the Lion’s Club. He was an avid deer hunter, spending many hours each season in his deer stand. He enjoyed hot coffee, long conversations and any excuse to get together with family and friends over a good meal. Bill always listened to people, gave them the benefit of doubt and had a passion for serving all those in need. It was the simple things around him in life that he never took for granted and always confessed how fortunate and thankful he was. His support, respect and wisdom will be dearly missed; especially by his three sons who worshipped their daily conversations. Bill was a man of strong faith, believing in the power and strength of Jesus Christ’s love and the beauty and peace that awaits him in heaven. Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gloria Pierce, of 54 years, oldest beloved son, Merrill A. Pierce, parents, Atlas and Marion Pierce, brother, Arthur “Bub” Pierce, and sisters, Connie Wall and Marion Deckelman. He is survived by his three prized sons, Merrick A. Pierce and wife Donna of Natchitoches, LA, Marshall A. Pierce and wife Valerie of Alpharetta, GA and Madison A. Pierce and wife Crystal of Natchitoches, LA; one sister, Sherry McNabb and husband Ronnie McNabb; two granddaughters, Melanie Roge and Katie Bludworth; three grandsons, Michael A. Pierce, Morgan A. Pierce and Maison A. Pierce; and two great granddaughters, Merideth Pierce and Aubrie Roge who all lovingly called him “Papa”. Bill especially knew he could depend upon his neighbors, Mark and Kathy Davis as well as Larry and Kim Davidson. He loved each of them the same as family. His love for life, friendship and family will be missed dearly by all, but we will all continue to celebrate the countless blessings he has bestowed upon our lives. William Atlas Pierce bids farewell to all his Gals and Pad-Nuh’s! The family will receive friends from 5 pm until 8 pm on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2 pm Sunday, September 17, 2017 at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home with Bro. Ken Evans officiating. Interment will follow in Memory Lawn Cemetery in Natchitoches, LA. Pallbearers will be Michael Pierce, Morgan Pierce, Maison Pierce, Mark Davis, Larry Davidson, Kirk Armitage, Brad Coldiron and Scotty Hicks. The Pierce Family thanks you all for your loving support.
