Funeral service for Michael Glenn “Goober” Gooden will be at 2 pm Sunday, September 24, 2017, at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Robeline, LA. The family will receive friends from 5 pm until 9 pm on Saturday, September 23rd at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home.
Mike, age 61 and a resident of Hagewood, LA, passed away Thursday, September 21, 2017, at 4:17 am. Mike was adored by many people. He volunteered to be Santa Claus for Natchitoches area business and was adored by the children of Natchitoches and he loved them.
Mike was affectionately called “Duck” by one of his many friends. Mike in return gave this man the nickname “Pig”. Mike and Pig remained the closest of friends until Thursday.
Mike worked for the LA DOTD for 32 years. Mike loved what he did for a living and left a legacy of hard work and loyalty to his company.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Huey P. Long Gooden and Clara Ann Gray Gooden; sister, Debra Lynn Nugent and husband Leroy Nugent; niece, Amanda Nugent; mother in law, Ollie Bell Armstrong; and his brother in law, Willie Gene Armstrong.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Betty Jo Armstrong Gooden; children, Derrick Gooden of Philadelphia, PA, Laura Norris and her daughter Heather of Baytown, TX, and Jenny Gooden of Many, LA; sister, Patti Lee and husband Richie of Senoia, GA; brother, Paul V. Gooden and wife Rose of Natchitoches; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Kevin Knippers, Bruce Allen, Paul Culberth, Lloyd Armstrong, Kip Delatin, and Ben Kennedy. Honorary pallbearers will be James “Pig” Brown, Anthony Trichel, Brent Trichel and Terry Payne.
