A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Willie F. Metoyer will be held at 11 am Saturday, December 23, 2017, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Isle Brevelle, LA with Father Charlie Ray serving as celebrant. Entombment in the St. Augustine Catholic Church Mausoleum will follow the mass. The family will receive friends from 8:30 am until 10:30 am at St. Augustine Catholic Church.
Willie passed on December 17, 2017, in Shreveport, LA. He was born July 28, 1935, in Isle Brevelle, to the late Irma (Christophe) Metoyer, Isle Brevelle, and Joseph (Jo Ben) Metoyer.
He was also proceeded in death by his brothers: Benjamin Metoyer, Raymond Metoyer and Julian Metoyer and Sisters: Roberta (Metoyer) Llorens, Camelle (Metoyer) Metoyer, Mary (Metoyer) Rachal.
Willie retired from Assured Casting Company in Rogersville, Tennessee after 55 years. Willie and Rose Helen retired and returned home to the Cane River community to enjoy his favorite hobbies of fishing, woodworking and volunteer services for his church and community.
Willie was not only an active member of The Knights of Columbus for thirty years, but was awarded the highest degree of the knights, the Fourth Degree. Service to his community was his joy as exemplified through active participation and leadership in the following organizations: St. Augustine Providence Mission (Vice President), Holy Name Society, Eucharistic Minister, Parish Council (Vice President), St. Augustine Historical Society (Vice President), and Boy Scouts of America (Scout Leader, Chicago, IL), Drake Rod and Gun Club (Chicago, IL), the Army Core of Engineer “Cane River-Save the River Bank Project.”
One of his proudest moments was serving as Project Director and successfully securing the plaque to acknowledge that St. Augustine Catholic Church would be recognized on the Federal Register of Historic Places, thus helping to preserve the rich history of his beloved church.
During his down time, he worked at the Bank of Montgomery for ten years wherein 2006 he was voted by his co-workers, “Mr. Bank of Montgomery.”
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 60 years, Rose Helen LaCour Metoyer of Isle Brevelle; his children Irma Metoyer LaBoy her husband Dennis of Hanover Park, IL; Willie “Buck” Metoyer, Jr. his wife Sherry of Memphis, TN; Daniel Metoyer his wife Debbie of St. Cloud, MN; Bridget Metoyer Payne her husband Louis of DeRidder, LA; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters; Mattie Antee of Joliet, IL; Alice Llorens of Houston, TX and Cora Sarpy (Luke) of Houston, TX and numerous godchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Michael Roque, Zachary Metoyer, Daniel Metoyer, Geoffery Metoyer, Dominic Metoyer, Henry Llorence, Jr.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Mark Guidry, Emery Jones, Henry Rachal, Louis Payne, Dennis LaBoy, Merl Rachal, Dwight Metoyer, Ben John Metoyer, Charles Metoyer, Wilfred Metoyer.
The family would like to thank all of the doctors for their care and concern over the years. Thank you to special friends, close neighbors, and family for their care and compassion during this difficult time.
