James Rex "Kip" Fair, Jr.

August 18, 1966 — January 7, 2018

James Rex “Kip” Fair, Jr., doting husband, loving father, beloved son, cherished brother, snazzy dresser, skilled attorney, Copenhagen connoisseur, and accomplished hunter died on January 7, 2018. Kip was born in Natchitoches Parish Hospital, Natchitoches, Louisiana on August 18, 1966, to James Rex Fair, Sr. and Shirley Cox Fair. Joining his two older sisters, Tanya Fair Marr and Darla Fair Webb, Kip was raised on Johnson Chute Road. Kip had a very special relationship with his mother. He loved and cherished her throughout his life. He especially loved her cooking and no other measured up. He was her angel here on earth, and he is now her angel in heaven. Kip was a tough kid growing up, but he was the youngest of the family. Consequently, if you messed with Kip you had to answer to Tanya and Darla. They loved their baby brother like only sisters can. Kip had an easy-going manner, a contagious laugh, and a winsome—sometimes wry—smile. His disarming personality allowed him to connect with and befriend everyone he met regardless of their status or station in life. A lifelong resident of Natchitoches, he attended NSU Elementary Lab School, Natchitoches Central High School, Northwestern State University, where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity and served on the Board of the House Corporation, and Southern University Law Center. Kip was proud to be a part of the fabric of Natchitoches. He was an active member in the community, serving on multiple boards and organizations, including the Board of Mystic Krewe de St. Denis, the Natchitoches Parish Bar Association, and he worked with the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office’s D.A.R.E. America Program. He was an avid hunter, outdoorsman and gun collector. From an early age, his father took him to the woods and taught him the delicate beauty of hunting and thriving in the outdoors. The time spent in the woods with his father helped mold him into the man he was. Kip was happiest sitting in a deer stand on a cold morning with a dip of Copenhagen and a Diet Coke waiting for the game to pass. He harvested many squirrels and deer at his camp in Ajax, LA. He traveled the world shooting ducks and doves in Nicaragua and Mexico, and he was able to kill a coveted, yet elusive, bull elk in Canada. The only thing he loved more than hunting was his wife, Brooke Landreneau Fair. Likewise, Kip was the love of Brooke’s life. Brooke caught his eye in a chance meeting at his office and almost from the first hello, Brooke was captivated by his charm. From their first date, Kip doted on Brooke and they both knew that God had been preparing their hearts to be bonded for eternity. Kip and Brooke shared a love for each other that is rarely seen. It was steady, constant, and beautiful. They spent their days laughing, loving, and looking forward to their future together. Kip and Brooke were married on May 12, 2001. They spent time together hunting, traveling, and “piling up” on the couch watching movies. It wasn’t long thereafter that their little family began to grow. Together, Kip and Brooke shared the joy of welcoming two beautiful daughters into the world: Jolee Brooke Fair and Jadee Beth Fair. Kip took extreme pride in his children, adorning his office with pictures of his girls. He coached their soccer teams, taught them to drive a tractor, and attended their cross-country meets, basketball games, dance recitals, gymnastics events, and a myriad of other functions. He treasured the time he spent each week with his family for their “Weekly Movie Night”. Additionally, Kip thoroughly enjoyed getting up early on weekends to cook his girls a special breakfast. But what brought him the most joy was planning and hosting the girls’ birthday parties at their family farm. Kip delighted in providing a fairytale life for his family. The love and joy from his family was reciprocated to him tenfold. Jolee and Jadee Beth adored their father. The unadulterated joy they felt in his embrace was overwhelmingly apparent...they thought he hung the moon. He was their hero and he was larger than life. Kip excelled at everything he touched. From flipping houses, to growing tomatoes, to brokering deals, to raising horses, to practicing law, Kip knew how to make it work. It worked because of his hard work. Anyone who knew Kip knew the answer to the question “What are you doing?” He would faithfully respond, “Working, brother!” He spent many late nights and early mornings at the office ensuring his clients received the best legal counsel he could offer. No one could outwork Kip. Kip was the man, the myth, the legend; he will be dearly missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege to know him. Kip is survived by his wife of 16 ½ years, Brooke Landreneau Fair, his fourteen year old daughter, Jolee Brooke Fair, his eleven year old daughter Jadee Beth Fair, his father James Rex Fair, Sr., his mother Shirley Cox Fair, his sister, Tanya Fair Marr and her husband Carroll Marr, their sons John Marr, Daniel Marr, and Michael Marr, his sister Darla Fair Webb and her husband Mike Webb, and their children Michael Webb, Dylan Webb, and Kaleigh Webb. The wake will be held at Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home located at 848 Keyser Avenue, Natchitoches, LA 71457 on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. Friends and relatives may attend a visitation at First Baptist Church located at 508 2nd St, Natchitoches, LA 71457 on Thursday, January 11, 2018 from 12:00pm to 1:00pm.
