Funeral service for Elijah Stephens will be held 1 PM Wednesday, November 11, 2009 in Blanchard St. Denis Chapel with Rev. J. D. McNeal officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Methodist Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 11, 2009 from 11AM until 1 PM in Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home. Mr. Stephens, 92, of Natchitoches, La., died Sunday, November 8, 2009, at his residence in Natchitoches, La. Mr. Stephens was a native and lifelong resident of Natchitoches, La. Mr. Stephens was a former salesman for Kaffie-Fredericks, appliance repairman, and rural mail carrier. He was a cattleman. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U. S. Army. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca Brown Stephens; son, Marvin Anthony Stephens; parents, Eli John Stephens, Sr. and Clara Ann Cox Stephens; sister, Pearl Gray; two brothers, Wesley Stephens and Marvin Stephens. He is survived by two daughters, Yvonne Tumminello and husband Charles of Alexandria, La. and Sandra Owecki and husband John of Natchitoches, La.; one son, Kenneth Stephens and wife Virginia of Pasadena, Tx.; four grandchildren, Paul Stephens and wife Susan, David Stephens and wife Ladena, Stephen Tumminello, and Johnna Owecki; two great grandchildren, Spencer Stephens and Connor Stephens; three sisters, Birtye Gray of Natchitoches, La., Ruby Allen of Marthaville, La., and Marzette Foster of Natchitoches, La.; one brother, E. J. Stephens, Jr. of Natchitoches, La. The family of Mr. Stephens would like to extend a special thanks to Kathy Ellerbe, his caregiver.
