Mrs. Nelson, 83 years of age and a resident of Robeline, passed away Monday, January 22, 2018, in Natchitoches. She was born on January 4, 1935, to Arres and Ernestine Vercher Welborn in Boyce, LA. She married Jack Nelson on January 27, 1951, and was married for more than 61 years before he passed away in 2012. Dolores spent countless hours by Jack’s side working with the grandchildren’s 4-H animals. She was knocked down many times by calves and at the time wasn’t a laughing matter. Later she found humor and fondly remembered the times she spent helping Jack. She was never seen without a pair of gloves and pruning shears, her yard was always immaculate. She was especially proud of her irises and daylilies. Her legacy of dying dozens of Easter eggs on Good Friday with the grandchildren will never be forgotten by her family. She will be dearly missed but fondly remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and sister.
She is survived by her son, Jim Nelson and wife Beth; grandchildren, Katie Nelson Arthur and husband Monty, Christina Nelson Johnson and husband Josh, and Cody Nelson and wife Tricia; brother, Ray Welborn and wife Judith; great-grandchildren, Tucker W. Arthur, Anna Kate Arthur, Cooper Johnson, Cole Johnson, Cannon Johnson, Matson Nelson, and Adrian Nelson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Nelson; parents, Arres and Ernestine Welborn; and a great-grandson, Taylor Cole Nelson.
