Gary Dean Day, of Natchitoches, LA and formerly of Wyoming, passed away November 19, 2009, at the Natchitoches Hospital. Arrangements are being handled by Blanchard St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches, LA, where the family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM Sunday, November 22, 2009. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM in the chapel following the visitation.
Gary was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He truly enjoyed teaching, whether it was in a classroom, teaching how to cook, or helping someone learn a life lesson. He thoroughly enjoyed reading, watching football, and spending time outdoors. Mr. Day earned his Bachelors in Science in Chemical Engineering and Education from the University of Colorado. He also earned his Masters from the University of South Dakota and his Doctorate in Science Education from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. He also earned various other degrees throughout his life. He retired from the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and Arts in Natchitoches, LA as a physics teacher. He was truly a great man, and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William W. Day, III and Mabel Rambeck Day.
He is survived by his wife of almost 55 years, Mrs. Mary Jane Day, of Natchitoches, LA; two daughters, Christine Edwards and husband Terry of Crosby, TX and Valerie Hausberger and husband Joe of Highlands, TX; one son, Kyle Day and wife Vera of Provencal, LA; eleven grandchildren, Crystal Thomas and husband J.C., Sara Edwards, Hollie Edwards, Sean Day, Heather Day, Jayme Day, Randy Cheek, Robin Cheek, Tori Tovo, William Hausberger, and Garrett Hausberger; one great grandson, John Charles Thomas, IV; two brothers, William Day and wife Carol of Riverton, WY and Michael David Day and wife Virgie of Provo, UT; and one sister, Marilyn Smith and husband Leland of Snowflake, AZ.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Day Memorial Scholarship at Central Wyoming College in Riverton, WY.
